Well, despite this paper, I am sure the NBA is still a "League of Cowards". But at least Obama will "half the budget deficit" right after doubling it. And what a coincidence that most of the spending will occur right when the "Bush" tax cuts expire. You would have thought that was planned, but that would imply a devious nature--which would be unfair. I also realize now that Tim Geithner did make a "mistake" on his taxes. The complexity, after all, is severe. Almost as complex as his "bank plan". He has only been working on it for 6 months (he was Paulson's Oz), why are people so impatient that he still does not have one? But Obama sure has a sense of humor---he makes me feel good about myself---see how he makes jokes about White House Helicopters during a crisis?
And Evan Thomas and Jon Meacham are Pultizer prize deserving and so honest in their reporting. The day after the election, as Thomas called Obama "deeply manipulative" and his campaign a "creepy cult of personality", Meacham had to gently remind the grandson of Socialist Party founder N.M. Thomas that he was manipulative, but in a good way "like Reagan". Since we are all socialists now, we can certainly see what he meant.
And I am most gratified that our Secretary of State, whose husband has been remarkably generous with the half billion he has raised for his Library, has shown the world that we Americans have grace and dignity as she thanked the Chinese for lending us money. She certainly cut a dignified picture in North Korea, that's for sure. And who could be more pleased than I that we have a Nobel Physicist as an Energy Secretary? Finally, a pure academic with ultra supreme intelligence in such a critical position. As he says, as soon as Obama tells him what our policies should be, he is ready to go.
It is also a wonder to see the new president openly supporting by name the policies of his predecessor that he has kept, like the detainee policy in Afghanistan (saying prisoners have no habeas corpus rights) and the admittedly terrifying "Library Book" search act. And how wonderful to learn that Gitmo did not violate Geneva conventions--even though it did not need to follow them. The screaming headlines vindicating Bush by name on Couric and Williams and the NYT did get a little over the top--but these things happen.
And I feel so good to be able to help my fellow citizens pay their mortgage, as I am sure they would feel the same toward me (when) I need their help. And what a surprise----I never knew it was California, Nevada, Phoenix, Florida, and Michigan that were the mortgage black holes. What a shock. Well, count me as supportive of the Disney-Vegas $8 billion (over/under on real cost--$30 billion) levitation train. If there were ever a set of people who played by the rules, did everything right and through no fault of their own, lost money in their houses, it is this group. While I did not finish reading the 1150 page bailout bill I am looking forward to learning where to apply for my stock market losses.
Well, all I can say is it is sooo great to finally be done with those failed policies of the Bush Administration.
