As Congress, the press, and soon, I am sure, prosecutors obsess once again over steroid use in baseball, Hank Aaron has his say Aaron believes Bonds should keep record. Aaron is not being "noble"; he is being the tough and real man that he always has been. Today's politicians and media are many things distasteful. One of their distasteful traits is "moral preening". They cherry pick what they perceive to be an obvious unfairness or injustice; juxtapose it against a straw man argument or use other rhetorical slights of hand, then ride their high horse down the moral highway. Plus, I notice many commentators discuss baseball who don't really know baseball. Hank Aaron, in particular, is held up as the high holy standard against which the modern baseball cretins cannot hold a candle. What's not to like about Hank Aaron? But using him in this manner is disgraceful. It is treating him as something other than a man; but as a symbol of a greater better time. But Aaron is not buying it, as much as he loved having the HR record. He is very clear about what he thinks. I vote for Hammerin' Hank's approach. His key quote is "if you {took Bond's record away} you would have to go back and change all kinds of records." He didn't say how far back, but I think we can figure out what he means as discussed in A-Rod Gets His 2 Minutes of Hate.
